Armed Checkpoints Reported Across Balochistan; Gunmen Enter Nushki
Armed individuals have reportedly established checkpoints and searched vehicles in several districts of Balochistan, while separate reports from Nushki said armed men entered the city and seized weapons from police personnel.
Checkpoints across several districts
According to local sources, armed individuals set up a checkpoint in the Dali area of Kharan, stopping and searching vehicles passing through. Similar reports came from the Dasht-e-Goran area of Kalat, where armed men were said to have established a checkpoint and were conducting snap checks on vehicles along the Quetta–Karachi highway. In Surab, sources reported armed individuals at a roadside checkpoint, with both men and women said to be among those taking part.
The Nushki incident
In Nushki, armed individuals reportedly entered the city and opened fire outside a private bank; local sources said the firing disabled one of the bank’s security cameras, though no casualties were reported. The men then moved towards Tariq Chowk, in the city’s main market, where they allegedly took the weapons of two police personnel before leaving.
Businesses across the market shut down afterwards, and a heavy deployment of Pakistani armed forces was later seen in the city. No group had claimed responsibility, and authorities had not issued an official statement at the time of reporting.
Context
Such incidents have grown more frequent in parts of Balochistan amid a long-running insurgency involving Baloch nationalist armed groups on one side and Pakistani military and law-enforcement forces on the other. Baloch armed groups have periodically set up temporary highway checkpoints, inspected vehicles, and attacked security installations — particularly in Kalat, Nushki, Kech, Kharan, and Mastung. The latest reports come amid heightened security activity across the region, with recent weeks seeing continued clashes, military operations, and attacks on both security personnel and state infrastructure.
