Mastung: Drone Strike Kills Four Labourers in an Orchard
A drone strike hit labourers working in an orchard at Geet, in the Khudkocha area of Mastung, Balochistan, killing four and wounding three — an attack that local rescue sources attributed to Pakistani forces.
The casualties
According to rescue sources, the dead were identified as Gul Khan Mughairi, Imran Brohi, and Ubaidullah Brohi, residents of Haji Shahar. The three wounded were named as Ali Raza Mengal, Naseebullah Abro, and Khalid Hussain. All had been working as labourers in the orchard. The bodies of the dead and the injured were taken to Shaheed Nawab Ghous Bakhsh Raisani Hospital.
A wider pattern of strikes
The attack follows an airstrike by Pakistani forces in the Surab area of Balochistan that, according to Baloch political parties and rights groups, killed around 30 civilians, a large number of them children. That toll has been disputed — authorities gave a far lower figure and described the incident as a militant explosion — but the strike drew broad condemnation, and the Balochistan National Party (BNP) and the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) observed a one-day shutter-down strike in protest.
International protests
The Surab killings have also drawn demonstrations abroad. In London, the Baloch National Movement (BNM) held a protest and candlelight vigil outside 10 Downing Street, with participants lighting candles in solidarity with the affected families and calling for an independent, transparent investigation. On 19 August, the BNM held a separate rally in Amsterdam, raising the violence and human-rights situation in Balochistan before an international audience.
The movement has announced a further demonstration in Busan, South Korea, scheduled for 23 August from 6:00 to 7:00 PM at the Sasang Apple Outlet near Gate No. 5, urging human-rights supporters to join in raising their voices against the killing of civilians, including women and children.
